This main web site is intended for those registered in the SOWK 1000 Internet section of the course.

This first-year Carleton University credit course is an Introduction to Social Welfare and Social Work. It is a distance education course delivered completely over the Internet. It contains over 300 photos, 38 video clips, and 72,000 words of text and a 470 word glossary.

PowerPoint Slides of class sessions are available online at www.socialpolicy.ca/slides.htm These are for use by all students taking the course either in-class, via instructional television (itv), Tapes-To-You (TTY) or via the Internet.

Some of the course topics contain video and audio clips which require a plug-in for Netscape and old Explorer browsers. Internet Explorer 5.0 users and most 4.0 users should not require a plug-in.
 

14.4 kbps modem or faster Internet connection (28.8 kbps modem is recommended)

486/33 MHz processor for a PC platform or equivalent for other platforms (Pentium processor is recommended)

16-bit sound card and speakers

8-bit video display (256 colours), 16-bit video display is recommended

Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer browser, version 3 or higher. Explorer 5.0 recommended.
